IEC

The Importer -Exporter Code (IEC) is a key business identification number which is mandatory for Exports or Imports. No person shall make any import or export except under an IEC Number granted by the DGFT. The documents required for applying for IEC are –

(1) PAN of the business entity in whose name Import/Export would be done (Applicant individual in case of Proprietorship firms).

(2) Address Proof of the applicant entity viz. Electricity bill/ MTNL bill/ Rent lease agreements, etc. (We suggest to include all the Addresses viz. Regd. Office/ Factory address / warehouses, etc.)

(3) LLPIN /CIN/ Registration Certification Number (whichever is applicable).

(4) Copy of SSI / MSME / IEM / IL registration (if manufacturer)

(5) Bank account details of the entity. Cancelled Cheque bearing entity’s pre-printed name or Bank certificate in prescribed format ANF2A(I).

(6) If there is NRI Investment in the Company / firm, this should be declared. (Copy of any specific permission taken from RBI or if automatic route, give specific details covered under automatic route).

(7) 2 Photographs of signatory whose photo appear in bank certificate.

Validity: The IEC number allocated against one PAN is valid for the entire lifetime for the applicant/ business and it is valid for all its branches/divisions/factories.

In case of import or export of services or technology, the IEC shall be required only when the service or technology provider is taking benefits under the Foreign Trade Policy or is dealing with specified services or technologies.
